Tim Voss > Autumn Sky; Alma Wisconsin This view is looking downstream past the lower lock gate for Lock and Dam Number 4 in Alma, Wisconsin. The dam was completed in 1937. The two stacks in the distance belong to a couple of power plants. The locks and dams on the Upper Mississippi are doing a fine job of killing the river. But they do make for good photo subjects.
Tim Voss > Barges; Red Wing, Minnesota Red Wing isn't all that large a community, but it has a busy frontage on the Mississippi River.
Tim Voss > Maiden Rock near Maiden Rock, Wisconsin Around 1700, the story goes, a Dakota Indian woman fell in love. Unfortunately, her family had picked out a different young man for her. To avoid the unfortunate marriage, the woman threw herself off this bluff. She was, as always in these kind of stories, young and beautiful. Multiple sources in the early to mid-Nineteenth Century reported the story, so it could well be true. The event gave name to the bluff and nearby town. By the bye, the bluff is over three hundred feet above the Mississippi River.
Tim Voss > Clouds over Lake Pepin; Stockholm, Wisconsin Summer haze made both sky and clouds look a bit milky. But I think this looks pretty good in black and white.
Tim Voss > Apple Blossoms by Anna Anna was up in an apple tree. She wanted to take some pictures, so I set the Nikon on Auto and handed it up to her. This is her first photo on the web.
Tim Voss > U.S. Flags; Minneapolis, Minnesota These flags are along West River Road near downtown Minneapolis. I was looking at another view and waiting for the sun to come back out. Something made me turn around and I found this.

Tim Voss > Sun and Trees; Saint Paul, Minnesota In a way, this one feels more like November than the last half of January. In another way, the cold trees could be reaching for the sun. The trees aren't as focused as they might be. But I like the image so much that I put it up, anyway.
