Cities > Tim Voss  > Lake Superior: Landscapes, Cityscapes and Ships > Duluth, Minnesota; Superior, Wisconsin; Lake Superior: Cold
Some winter views of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin. If the image looks cold, it was cold. I think there's a lot of beauty in deep winter and, hopefully, I've shared some of that. Cold as it was, it gets a lot colder in a lot of other places. One just dresses for the conditions and gets on with it. Toe warmers and a couple of hand warmers per mitten help a lot. The only real problems were frosting up the viewfinder and keeping the battery warm. For what it might be worth to anybody, dropping the battery into a mitten between shots helps keep it warm. Using two batteries, and alternating them, would work better. Just make sure you're wearing some thin polypropylene gloves, too. They really help when mittens are too awkward.

The Aerial Lift Bridge is the iconic symbol of Duluth. It crosses the ship canal and joins Park Point with the rest of Duluth. It was constructed between 1904-1905, and began life with a suspended "gondola" that shuttled back and forth. Conversion to a lift bridge occurred between 1929-1930.
Tim Voss > Frost Smoke at Brighton Beach; Duluth Minnesota

A subzero day with clouds of frost smoke rolling off the Big Lake doesn't make for good picnic weather!
